"Little Girl in Gramma's Garden" - My 100th Blog Painting!

To celebrate my 100th (!!!) PAD blog painting I thought I would paint a 'self-portrait' of sorts. For years I've been wanting to paint from this old photograph of me standing in my grandmother's flower garden in Wilmington, NC. Like my knobby knees?!?

I started this PAD blog in mid November as a way to help me get through this tough economy. I've sold over two thirds of them. Thanks everyone!

"Jacksonville Triptych" Part One of Three

Sometimes it gets frustrating to start and finish a painting in one day so I decided to paint this skyline as a triptych and post photos of it's progression as I work on it today/Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. While three separate panels it could be framed together as shown or framed with an inch or so in between each panel.

"Riverside Arts Market

No PAD painting painted Friday, too busy getting ready for the Riverside Arts Market on Saturday (today). Those of you in the North Florida area come visit me there and support a wonderful new venue/event for our area. It is from 10 am - 4 pm every Saturday under the Fuller Warren Bridge on the northbank, where I-95 goes over the St. Johns River, on Riverside Ave, between the Fidelity Buildings and the Red Cross/Cummer Museum. I suggest parking at the Y and walking down the Northbank Riverwalk to get there. Or ride your bike, there is a bike valet service in the Riverside Ave/Fidelity corner. My booth is 406, one row away from the farmer's market row, just about in the middle towards Riverside Ave. I heard 100 new artist applied on Monday to participate, they must have scoped it out the previous Saturday. I will be there next Saturday as well and then go to a more two Saturdays a month schedule. I look forward to seeing you there. I have some new paintings and prints for my display!

I counted (but need to doublecheck) and I've painted 91 PADs since mid-February, SOLD 60, have 31 available and have 107 people following by email subscription (and growing!) Thanks! It has been a great marketing tool, a very challenging experience and a help for me monetarily during these tough economic times for everyone.

Painting my dog, Talley, is always a good, fun, quick subject for when I am starting a PAD late. And yes, she has her own life jacket! We were on Lake Santa Fe one early morning. She also likes to go kayaking with me. Enjoy!

"Extra! Extra! Read All About...ME!

Holy cow! I made the front page of the Florida Times-Union and above the fold at that! Charlie Patton called to interview me and then they sent Bruce Lipsky to take my picture in my studio. The photo session was a lot of fun and he made sure to include Talley (he said the editors really liked dogs!) Bruce thought it would be in the Metro Section so I was shocked this morning to see me on the front. Here is a link to the whole article online. (Next time I will be more thoughtful when/if interviewed before blurting "I think it is going to be really neat!") Here is a link to a better image of the front page.

"Life, Memorial Park"

This is the bronze sculpture "Life", created by Charles Adrian Pillars, located in Memorial Park. I decided to paint Memorial Park again because it would be a good one to have at the Riverside Arts Market this Saturday, April 4th. Underneath the Fuller Warren Bridge, North Bank, Riverside Ave side, it will be from 10 am until 4 pm and I'm pretty sure it is free to attend. My booth number is 406, one row away from the Farmer's Market. I plan on participating in the Art Market about two Saturdays a month and see how it goes. I recommend either walking or riding a bike (there is a bike depot) or parking at the YMCA lot and walking down the NorthBank Riverwalk to it. Come visit me there!

Charlie Patton interviewed me yesterday for the Florida Times-Union and a photographer came today to my studio and took some pictures of me. Sounds like I will be included in an article about it in the paper tomorrow! I will post what comes out since I doubt I will be painting a PAD tomorrow being busy with getting my booth ready.

Major, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, is staying with Talley and me while his family is on spring break. He got his own 'vacation' to the lake. While being a little dog, he has the heart of a big dog.
